Licence Modification Packets

Your dealer licence changed — your address, your name, your officers, your endorsements. Each change goes to DMV on specific forms with specific attachments, and the wrong packet costs you a rejection cycle. These packets walk each modification in order.

How it works

How it works

DMV's Occupational Licensing section publishes the rules for changing a dealer licence in two charts — one for ownership changes, one for everything else. Most dealers never see them; they guess, or they pay someone by the hour to guess for them. Each packet below is built from those charts and DMV's current fee schedule: the exact form(s), the state fee, every attachment DMV lists, a step checklist in filing order, and a data sheet that gathers — once — every value the form will ask for, so the name and address strings match across the form, the bond, and the Secretary of State record.

Who needs it

Who needs it

Any licensed California dealer whose business facts changed — which, over a licence's life, is every dealer. If you moved lots, rebranded, brought in a partner, lost an officer, or started brokering, one of these is your filing.

What this is

What this is

Form assignments and fees are taken from DMV's own published modification and ownership charts and its current dealer fee schedule, and the sources map ships in the pack — including the honest caveat that DMV's two charts are dated revisions (2017 and 2012) that DMV still links from its current dealer page, so you should confirm the current revision in DMV's portal before filing. We prepare documents; we are not attorneys, and we do not file with DMV for you — you review, sign, and submit as the licensee of record.

FAQ

Common questions

How much does DMV charge to change my licence?

$70 for the standard alterations — name change, address change, adding a branch, officer change (DMV's published fee schedule). Adding the autobroker endorsement is $100. Closing a location and changing only your mailing address carry no DMV fee.

Can I just file one form for a DBA change?

No — a DBA is a county record first. You file the new fictitious business name statement at the county, then DMV's OL 21 + ADM 9050 with the new FBN statement, a bond rider, and updated permits attached. Packet 02 sequences both layers so nothing is filed in the wrong order.

Does a new officer have to be fingerprinted?

Only if the person participates in business decisions — DMV's chart limits the Live Scan (DMV 8016) requirement to those officers. An officer who will not direct, control, or manage the business can be excluded with an OL 107 declaration.

I am converting my sole proprietorship to an LLC. Which packet?

None of them — and that is the most expensive mistake in this area. DMV treats a structure change as a cancellation of the existing licence plus a brand-new original application. The packets flag this in bold rather than sell you the wrong filing.

Do you file the modification for me?

No. We prepare the packet — forms identified, data sheet completed, attachments listed in order — and you submit it as the licensee, in person or through DMV's Occupational Licensing portal. That keeps you the applicant of record, exactly as DMV expects.
